What an excitement to get asked to make this green silk lace wedding dress for Maxine.
Green silk and lace Wedding Dress
When she came to see me she pretty much had her whole wedding organised, apart from her dress. Maxine had a vision in green, but nothing set in stone. She wanted colour texture and not the usual wedding dress, she wanted to be able to dance and move and and feel fab and flatter her shape.
So with all of that taken into account, we looked at a lot of materials and green colours and vintage style laces. She then settled fro this gorgeous green Marocain silk crepe with a Chantilly lace overlay. We added all the traditional wedding dress touches, such as hand made buttons and loops and hand worked lace edges on the neckline, skirt and bodice join and the capped sleeves. We attached the scalloped edging by hand on the high low hem line.
We love the result, fresh, young and sophisticated, and really spring like. We love how the dress goes with the interior of the Physicians hall.
Maxine and Peter had the loveliest ceremony and reception in the Royal College of Physician. Maxine’s old friend Mark is a photographer and offered to take the photographs and did a great job of it. You can find him at Beautyman Photography.

Ten weeks before our big wedding last Sat 05 May, I had a total disaster on the dress front (long story) and emailed Mette in the middle of the night having seen her mentioned here in EGGs. I was in a total panic, stressed, and really had no idea if it was too late for anyone to help.
At 09:00 the next morning she read my email, called me and asked, “How soon can I see you?” and I just knew immediately that I was in safe hands.
Mette was on my wavelength from the start, sketched out my dream dress after a chat and brought out some fabrics, within the hour we had the dream on the mannequin and on paper. Actually, credit where it’s due, better than my dream! Fabulous stuff!
The following weeks, with emails, calls and fittings, were stress-free and an absolute pleasure. The dress itself is perfectly made. I felt comfortable and amazing in it all day, and it moved beautifully when I danced, which I did…a lot!
If anyone is considering a bespoke or made to measure dress that suits only them and how they plan to enjoy their wedding day, then Mette is the woman for the job. Skilled, professional, and warm. Cannot recommend Freja Designer Dressmaking highly enough.
