Mother of the Bride Edinburgh

We love to design for our Mother of the Bride and Mother of the Groom Clients in Edinburgh and beyond.

Finding the perfect off-the-peg outfit that suits the occasion can be tricky, so we offer the same personalised design process for brides’ and grooms’ mothers. We create pieces that flatter your shape and are appropriate for your age and style, helping you to relax and enjoy the day. We understand that not everyone has the same style and we ensure that your style is fully represented throughout the design.

We need to spend a little time getting to know you, finding out about the wedding itself, and determining if there is a particular colour you enjoy wearing that will flatter the overall theme and complement your daughter/son’s wedding dress or kilt/suit, and perhaps the colours of the bridesmaids dresses.

We offer a service that fits your busy schedule, so approximately four meetings/fittings before the wedding day will be enough time for us to create the perfect outfit that we know you will feel comfortable wearing and be happy being photographed in.

How does it work?

First we will arrange a meeting this could be on zoom or in person. At this meeting we discuss silhouettes and styles. We will look at materials, the main fabric, linings, embellishments, any lace or anything else we would like to use. You will get to see a sketch of your design and make changes to it before the final proposal.

Then we will write you a proposal. Including the price, and potentially alternative options for pricing and details depending on what was discussed in your consultation.

We then ask you to agree to our Terms & Conditions. We take a deposit, measure you up and start creating.

We start by creating a calico model of the dress. This is created in plain fabric that allows us to adjust/add and take away as much as possible. We do this to avoid heavily manipulating your beautiful final fabric. You are invited in to try it on and once you are happy with this we can begin to work on the actual dress.

Once we have now converted all the adaptations from the template. We cut your “real dress”. At this stage, there will not be any fastenings or hem or anything like that. But we fit it to you and can adjust to you at this stage.

Finally, we invite you back when we have finished your dress. With the added fastening and any embellishments or details.

We would love to see you in it, and you can take it away to enjoy.

Frequently Asked Questions!

What accessories will work with my dress?

We have lots of experience in helping you pick the right accessories for your garment. We can also help if you wish to base your garment around colours in jackets/shoes/bags/jewellery that you already have. We work closely with a range of brilliant industry professionals that create accessories such as beautiful headpieces and hats. We can provide them with matching fabric for your perfect accessory.

What if I lose or gain weight?

If you are looking to change your size, please let us know as soon as you can. We will absolutely support you in your decision, and we are able to work around weight loss or gain. We can plan production and fittings around your goals. However, we will have to know in advance so we can make a plan. Please do not leave it until the last minute if you would like our help with this as this service requires planning and booking in advance to ensure we can get all fittings done as close to the desired date as possible.

What do I wear under my dress? Which underwear should I pick?

We can help advise you on the best underwear or shapewear to look and feel your best on the day. A lot of dresses require a specific type of underwear depending on the style and we can’t always build in the necessary support to eliminate wearing a bra. We will go through all this with you in your fittings so you know exactly what to wear! We also wrote a blog post all about ‘foundation garments’ that we recommend under your outfits, you can read all about it here.

Do I need an appointment? Do you take walk-ins?

We would like to ask you to book an appointment in advance, we will then have set time aside to spend with you and we will have done any preparations in advance to make the process as smooth as possible. Most of the time if you show up without we will be in the middle of a fitting or consultation already. Our days tend to be booked with back to back appointments or fittings and any quiet time is blocked out to prepare for these appointments or for creating your garment. We are by appointment only to ensure that we have plenty time to explore your ideas. We ensure that you are the priority in your appointment so we ask kindly that you don’t come too early or run late to your appointment so we aren’t eating into anyone else’s booked time. You can book here for a zoom call or here for an in-person appointment.

How much does it cost?

All our pieces are made individually and, therefore, individually priced. We will always quote you a price and stick to it before we start. Only changes to that, is if there are changes to the initial agreed specification.

The things that have an impact on the price are; the cost of the fabric, the difficulty of the design, the amount of hand worked details (like anything attached or matched up by hand e.g. beading, buttons and loops matching up of lace scallops and lace designs). We have created a document with information on the starting points on pricing, you can get it by email on this link.

We pride ourselves and our business on ensuring that our pricing is fair to the garment, which is why we don’t do a blanket price for each style (long, short, two piece). We charge purely on the materials and craftsmanship involved so you get the best outfit possible.

We would love to see you soon!
