Outfits for Mother of Brides and Grooms

We offer a bespoke service for both mothers of the outfits of mother of the bride’s and groom’s outfits. We love working with them and making something suitable for their big family events.

Silk and Lace Combinations for mother of the bride

One of my favourites this year was Jackie’s gold and coral dress. The gold lace is beaded with gold beads and in addition, similarly, the dress shape is enhanced with the handworked lace edges.  The colour and design just suit her perfectly.

Teal colour for mother of the bride

Teal is a popular colour for the mother of the Brides mother of the groom outfits. This beautiful teal dress with silk organza skirt and collar is for a March wedding for Mother of the Bride, in Edinburgh. Alex Muir makes many lovely hats for our clients, this is one of his designs. The photo credit goes to Grame Wilson Photography

A Fuchia pink outfit consists of a boat neckline dress with a deep box pleat on the front and crystal belt. With that, a cape style jacket in chantilly lace with facings in Duchesse satin, creating a deep box pleat at the back and sitting edge to edge on the front. Mary also picks a peacock blue for her son’s wedding, we love the lace and silk chiffon combination. Mary told us she felt great in her outfit.

We love this contemporary understated navy mother of the groom outfit. Made in inky blue pure silk crepe with a guipure lace back. Concealed zip and a waterfall drape and slit on the front.

Berry coloured silk chiffon with purple embroidered tulle and pewter beading makes a beautiful Mother of the Groom outfit for a sophisticated London wedding. Alex Muir again completes the outfit with a stunning hat.

Scotlands amazing history of design with Charles Rennie Mackintosh is a big deal. This Mother of the bride chose a beautiful embroidered tulle with the Glasgow rose design. The Rose gold colour is a stunning choice. Adding the half-circle skirt to the dropped waist makes a swishy skirt. After that, we made a large flower in silk and embellishments, which was sitting on a broach pin. The rose could be moved to her handbag or hairclip, should she want to wear the dress again with a jacket over.

A heather chiffon dress with a sweetheart neckline and a jacket in embroidered tulle makes a stunning outfit for a mother of the Groom in July. We made an outfit for this lady for her other son’s wedding and we were over the moon to get to work with her again.

Making this lovely silver beaded lace jacket was a joy. Sitting on top of a 1950es style dress Bardot collar, as well as a deep pleated skirt. Furthermore, the lace jacket attaches under the collar so it can come off for the dancing. It is great to have a cover on your arms for the ceremony, but when it comes to the dancing most ladies prefer to have plenty of room to move the arms. So this is a great option, Photo by Gail Photography

Silk Dresses and outfits for Mothers of Brides and Grooms

We all love vintage inspiration in our dressmaking. The detail makes this dress special. The sleeves and belt show little bow details. The Bardot collar is so complimentary as well as the deep pleats in the skirt. The neck comes to a V at the back.

An exciting job to be working on was this outfit for the mother of the groom who was going to Italy for the wedding. She wanted a soft contemporary outfit, therefore we sourced lovely print silk from Joel and Son Fabrics in London. The print was perfect for constructing silk culottes. The culottes looked amazing dressed with silk crepe top in canary yellow. She changed from the yellow top to a black silk top for the evening. The headdress is made by the Tiny Hat Company.

Another outfit we love looking back. A coral coloured silk crepe dress with big bow detail on the sleeves. It’s an effortless dress, so simple. When we make such a simple style of drees, it must be made in very exclusive fabric to create the Wow-factor. The outfit works well with the cream hat, Jimmy Choo shoes, and handbag.

Here is Fiona, her son got married in the spring at Pratis Farm in Fife. She chose a simple dress and jacket in dusky rose Orissa silk with silk satin shawl collar details and cuffs. The colour is really really good on her.

One of my favourite colours is emerald green. The colour is perfect for an August wedding, here with Ruching to the side and crystal motifs, and headdress from Bridget Webster.  This dress is so super light.  For such light dresses, we make them in in sheer French silk chiffon with silk satin backing. and a concealed zip at the back for invisible fastening.

Linton Tweed outfits

Small productions of beautiful novelty tweeds come to us from the Carlisle area. The tweed makes lovely outfits inspired by European style. We make cool Chanel style dresses for wedding guests. This one has great detail, with a silk satin woven into the braid for detail.

We don’t need to make all outfits with a dress and jacket, or dress and coat. A stand-alone dress was made in the Linton Tweed, we made edgings of braiding and matching silk satin we threaded through the braids. In the classic Chanel inspired cut. This is for a wedding guest, but it just sneaked into this blog post.

Linton tweed again makes this lovely smart little suit for the mother of the bride. It’s a simple cut dress in wool boucle, with silk satin edgings on the jacket and dress. We completing the European designer look by adding some pretty special buttons.

A little Linton tweed jacket in orchid pink, ivory and black with silver thread, makes a perfect jacket to use for a wedding and in all sorts of combinations after the wedding.  Monochrome ivory and black dress to go with the jacket is the perfect combination.

What an amazing individual selection. We love our clients keep us on our toes. We have many more mothers of the brides and groom’s outfits on the go for the rest of the year, as well as for 2020, we will be more than happy to help you too.

This is what Karen said after:

Mette possesses a wonderful combination of qualities that put your mind at rest when having a dress made for a very special occasion.
She is both highly professional in her approach in the way she advises about suitable material, style, timescales, cost yet she is warm and friendly and puts you readily at ease.

I had a dress made very recently for my son’s wedding in August and it is important to me, (as I guess it is to every mother of the groom,) to look the best I can on the day.

I had gone to a dressmaker in the city where I live and was not impressed by the way in which the initial discussions took place, so I decided to look elsewhere.

I like the way Freja Designer Dressmaking website is laid out and the interview with Mette was helpful to listen to in terms of making my decision to approach her.
I am very pleased indeed that I did.

I was clear about my budget and Mette was clear about what could be done within that, which I found very helpful. I knew which colour and roughly the style I wanted and she came up with a beautiful design, simple but with gorgeous floaty sleeves which give the dress an extra dimension and movement which could only have arisen out of Mette’s artistic direction. It is exquisite.

In addition to her obvious skills as a designer and dressmaker, Mette’s approach was wider than that. She took an interest in where and when the wedding was taking place and between visits, she had seen looked at the venue online. She took a genuine interest in everything around wedding planning. It was those additional aspects that made the whole experience of having a dress made with Mette at Freya Designer Dressmaking a
wonderful experience.

I would highly recommend that anyone who wants a dress made for a special occasion pays Mette a visit. You will not be disappointed. Thank -you very much indeed Mette for making me look the best I can on the day.
