Repurposing Wedding Dresses
This original gown, worn many years ago by Alexandra’s aunt, was still in immaculate condition. We carefully preserve as much as we can of the original bodice and dress when repurposing wedding dresses, including their beautiful lace-up corset back, or other beautiful details.
To modernise the design, we added a luxurious dupion silk half-circle skirt and introduced a gently dipped back to create a flattering tapered silhouette that complemented the corset detail. The corset was finished with a sumptuous velvet ribbon, adding texture and elegance while elevating the overall design. We also utilised fabric from the original train to retain sentimental elements of the dress.
For the sleeves, we created large, floaty off-the-shoulder sleeves attached to a structured collar and bodice. Although detachable sleeves were initially discussed, Alexandra chose to have them permanently stitched so she could enjoy the look throughout her entire wedding day.
Alexandra celebrated her wedding at the stunning Winton Castle, beautifully photographed by Tony Marsh (@snappermarsh on Instagram).

Repurposing Wedding Dresses for an updated vintage look
A completely different repurposing project took place at Dundas Castle. Bride Alice arrived with her mother’s 1994 wedding dress — a design very much of its time.
Our aim was to retain meaningful elements while creating an updated silhouette suited to a contemporary wedding. The finished gown honoured the original dress while feeling entirely modern. Her wedding day was beautifully captured by Blue Sky Photography.

From Wedding Dress to repurposed Coat Dress
Another recent project involved transforming a high-neck wedding dress featuring guipure lace into an on-trend coat dress. We introduced a flattering basque waist while preserving the original lace detailing, allowing the craftsmanship of the original garment to remain part of the new design. What Does Repurposing a Wedding Dress Mean?
Repurposing means transforming the fabrics and original components of a garment into something entirely new. This goes beyond simple alterations — we do not merely resize dresses.
Instead, we reimagine garments, breathing new life into pieces filled with memories while creating space for new ones. Whether using the entire dress or selected elements, repurposing allows sentimental fabrics to become part of a modern design.
Recent projects have included transforming wedding dresses into lace boleros, occasionwear, and contemporary bridal pieces.

Can Every Wedding Dress Be Repurposed?
This is one of the most common questions we receive.
We never agree to repurpose a wedding dress until we have examined it in person. The overall condition, fabric strength, and storage history are all important factors. Over time, some fabrics deteriorate and can become too fragile to safely reconstruct.
We will always provide honest advice. If a dress has been properly preserved, there is usually excellent potential to transform it into something new, while still incorporating something old.
Why Repurposing Clothing Matters
Clothing is deeply personal. Garments sit closer to us than almost anything else, carrying memories, emotions, and family stories.
Repurposing a loved one’s wedding dress is a beautiful way to honour those connections while creating a sustainable alternative to buying new. Reusing existing garments reduces waste, prevents textiles from entering landfills, and lessens the environmental impact associated with producing new fabrics.
