Jumpsuit Bride with Cape

Jumpsuit brides we love! It is such a pleasure when we have brides with great contemporary ideas. Imogen was such a bride. Working as a makeup artist on film sets and period documentaries, she has such an eye for a really cool style. The couple had a huge schedule planned around the Wedding. Imogen is from Australia. The couple was in the process of wrapping up their life in Scotland and move to Australia to live there. Lots and lots to do, but the top of the list was a lovely wedding day, to celebrate with friends and family. Sloans…

Soft Silk Wedding Dress

soft silk dress

Soft silk wedding dress in different materials and textures was the starting point for this wedding dress. Eleanor likes soft to touch materials and wearing tops that are stylish, and simple and without structure. Making a bespoke wedding dress like that starts with sketches and playing around with ideas and fabric swatches. We were initially working towards a 2 piece, with a skirt and a top, but we ran into difficulties. We saw lines through the silk where the 2 joined. Getting in and out of the 2 pieces was also a challenge. Therefore, we made the call to make…

Women Supporting Each Other

Here is a little piece about 4 women who came together to work and supporting each other: Once in a while, like a lunar eclipse or a blue moon, a dynamic shift occurs. Two forces join together. Combined, they have the potential to create an exciting change. Freja Designer Dressmaking, based in Edinburgh is a women-run business and Vows Wedding Gown Awards Finalist. Shelley Grierson, a Ms Great Britain Finalist for 2019/2020 teamed up recently with the Freja team. They wanted to work together, on raising the profile of women in business, and in particular within the fashion and beauty…

Bohemian Style Bride

Bohemian Style Bride Beautiful Katie had lots of ideas on a soft modern wedding. Going for beautiful silks for a wrap-over style skirt gave a soft luxurious feel. She then picked a lovely polka dot mesh with stunning beaded embellishment. The combination gave it a slightly bohemian look. We then LOVE how she teamed the dress with vivid colored shoes and a bespoke headdress from Rene Walrus. The headdress is designed and made by Rene Walrus in Edinburgh and we are a sole stockist of the exclusive hand made jewelry. Katie and Elliot’s wedding ceremony was a beautiful ceremony in…

Touch of Tartan

Touch of Tartan was the theme of this stunning wedding. We love a challenge and Claire asked us to make her a bespoke wedding jumpsuit. We both wanted a contemporary look with the trousers, but also retain traditional elements, of a traditional wedding dress.  And then, we wanted the tartan, but just a touch of it. Claire went for a silk crepe as the trouser fabric, this drapes and looks soft and feminine. Then we had a strapless bodice with a sweetheart neckline with boning and structure to give a great shape. Then a lovely heavily beaded and sequinned lace…

Soft Mermaid Wedding Dress

Soft Mermaid Wedding Dress, is how I would describe Eilidh’s dress. But there is much more to it! Eilidh had different ideas when we first met to discuss dress. She wanted a bespoke dress with a specific neckline and long big fan out train and very pale ivory colour. But she had specific requirements too, as she was getting married in France at the height of summer and really didn’t want to be too hot. So we looked at it together and sourced some lovely heavy crepe, with a really heavy drape. The fabric worked really well. Eilidh wanted a…

Crisp silk wedding dress for a beautiful May Bride. The classic dresses from the 50es are the inspiration for this bride’s stylish outfit. Hannah’s dress made in beautiful bespoke Ivory Dupion silk, a big Box Pleated skirt with a boned bodice and SweetHeart neckline. The dress fastened on the back with silk buttons and loops. We made Hannah 2 different belts, one for the daytime in silk and a little buckle. In the evening she went all out and had a wide crystal embellished crystal belt. The couple had a humanistic ceremony conducted by Tim Maguire . Tim conducts ceremonies…

Vintage Style Wedding Dress

Silk Wedding dress with vintage lace

Vintage Style Wedding dress with Silk Veil We have long been a fan of Adelaide’s Secret Garden. Adelaide is the creator of stunning floral displays, She makes wedding and event flowers to die for.  Therefore, she choosing us for designing her bespoke wedding dress was just wonderful. I always thought Adelaide’s floristry was full of lovely textures.  I really wanted to mirror that for her dress design. She had a lovely little scrapbook with ideas, which we went through on her first visit, and we immediately knew this was going to be amazing. Adelaide and her mum had seen a…

Short beaded lace wedding dress

A simple Short beaded lace Wedding dress in silk with lace overlay. The lace has a floral pattern and embellished with beads and sequins. The cut and style suits Joanna’s tiny frame. We made a structured boned and bodice with internal lace-up. Then added the lace overlay, and finished it off with lace details made by hand. The Scalloped edges on the waist and neckline we make by hand. When we work in embellished lace we always have to remove the beads and sequins over the seams, as these cant go into the sewing machine. then we add them back…
