Draped Silk Wedding Dress

For Rachel’s wedding we made her a beautiful draped silk wedding dress. What a pleasure and honour to get to make 2 wedding dresses for the same family.

Ten years ago, we had the pleasure of making a wedding dress for Rachael’s sister Anna. Now Rachael got in touch and asked for us to make her a wedding dress.

I guess if you have a sandwich shop, your recommendations come as a quick turnaround. But I much appreciate what I sell you don’t need every day.

Just like Anna, Rachael came in with great ideas and had done a lot of research on styles, details and ideas before meeting me. She also had a great mood board for us to work from.

It is then my job to understand exactly what she is looking for and how we can bring her vision to life. We made a few changes to the design along the way. The detachable train was something we added. I think it works so well as Rachael wanted to be able to dance and party in her dress, so taking the train off was such a great option.

The simple two-tier veil worked so well with the dress with the beautiful detail from the draping.

The dress we made for her is heavily structured and boned. We have made the front fairly flat to create that period flat front in her dress. We cut the pure silk satin on the bias for the draped detail to ensure the draping sat well on the front to create that fake cowl effect. Rachael decided to go for dropped sleeves and they look so great. We love the luxurious drape of this stunning silk. The dress featured a straight skirt with an opening at the centre back so she could walk. The detachable train sits on a belt that she can take on and off as she needs it.

We loved making this draped silk wedding dress and feel we got it perfect for her big day.

The wedding took place at the beautiful One Devonshire Gardens in Glasgow.

Millar Cole Photography took the beautiful images.
